The Xotic EP Booster recreates the input stage of the classic Echoplex tape echo machine — a circuit that guitarists discovered added a warm, slightly coloured presence boost that made their tone sound bigger and more three-dimensional even when the echo was off. John Mayer and Brad Paisley both leave EP Boosters permanently on in their signal chains as a 'tone enhancer' rather than a traditional boost pedal.
