The Danelectro 59 reissues the brand's original late-1950s design — a Masonite-topped, semi-hollow body with distinctive lipstick-tube single-coil pickups salvaged in concept from actual lipstick tube casings. The pickups are bright, thin-sounding in a musically useful way, and low-output compared to a Stratocaster's single coils, giving a jangly, slightly lo-fi character that suits indie, garage, and alternative playing. Jimmy Page used a Danelectro for Led Zeppelin's open-tuned and slide parts, including 'Kashmir.'
