Boss CE-2W Chorus
Boss · ModulationThe Boss CE-2W in CE-1 mode at slow Rate and deep Depth produces the lush, slow-modulating analog chorus at the heart of shoegaze. The CE-2's original BBD circuit is specifically what Ride, Slowdive, and Lush used in the early 90s. At high Depth and low Rate the chorus is prominent and slowly sweeping — the defining texture of dreamy shoegaze guitar.
Shoegaze settings on this unit:
Slow Rate with higher Depth — the lush, slow-modulating chorus used in ambient and shoegaze contexts. Slow Rate means the modulation cycle is long; high Depth means the pitch deviation is significant. The CE-2W in CE-1 mode at these settings produces a particularly warm, enveloping chorus.
Strengths
- CE-1 mode produces the specific slow, lush chorus of the shoegaze era
- BBD analog warmth — genuine 1970s-spec circuit, not a digital simulation
- High Depth and low Rate create the maximum shoegaze chorus texture — slow and enveloping
Worth knowing
True analog CE-2W requires a 9V power supply — cannot run on battery for extended use given the current draw. Ensure your power supply can handle the pedal.
