Adrian Smith — Tone Evolution
Adrian Smith is one of Iron Maiden's three guitarists — the melody writer among the trio. His guitar work tends toward singable lead lines and melodic hooks rather than the tapped gymnastics of Dave Murray or the structural riffing of Janick Gers. A Fender Stratocaster and a Jackson signature are his primary weapons.
1980–1990: Killers / Seventh Son
Smith joined Maiden on Killers (1981) and stayed through Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (1988) — the band's commercial and critical peak. His melodic lead lines on "The Trooper", "Aces High", and "Wasted Years" are among Maiden's most memorable moments. A Stratocaster through a Marshall 100-watt head gave his leads their singing quality in contrast to Murray's faster, more wrist-heavy approach.

1999–present: Brave New World / Return
↑ Three-guitar Maiden lineup gave Smith more space to develop melody lines — complementary architecture rather than competitive lead roles.
Smith left Maiden after No Prayer for the Dying (1990) and reunited for Brave New World (2000), where the three-guitar lineup (Smith, Murray, Gers) was cemented. The subsequent Maiden albums — Dance of Death, A Matter of Life and Death, The Final Frontier, Senjutsu — maintained his melodic role within the three-guitar structure. His Jackson signature remains primary.
