Andy Timmons

Andy Timmons — Tone Evolution

Andy Timmons is a melodic rock and fusion guitarist known for his highly expressive vibrato and sustained legato lines. His work with Danger Danger, solo albums, and extended Ibanez endorsement made him a guitarist's guitarist rather than a household name.

1989–1995: Danger Danger

Timmons played lead guitar for Danger Danger — a hard rock/glam metal band that achieved modest commercial success. His tone in this era was classic '80s rock: Ibanez RG through a rack-mount rig (Boogie or Soldano). The playing was technically strong but constrained by the commercial metal context.

Solo career unlocked Timmons' voice — the Cornford amp's EL34 warmth and his AT100's neck profile enabled the expressive vibrato that became his calling card.

Solo albums (Ear X-Tacy, Resolution, Andy Timmons Band) showed a more personal voice — bluesy, melodic, with extraordinary vibrato and note choice. He became Ibanez AT100 signature endorser; the guitar's fat neck and floating tremolo suited his expressive approach. Resolution (2006) is widely considered his best work — melodic rock guitar that prioritises feel over speed.
