Cory Wong

Cory Wong — Tone Evolution

Cory Wong is a Minneapolis-based rhythm guitarist known for extraordinarily precise funky strumming and choppy rhythm work. He rose to prominence with Vulfpeck and has built a solo career around the Fender Stratocaster through a clean amp — his right-hand muting and percussive chord work have made him one of the most influential rhythm guitarists on social media.

Wong joined Vulfpeck around 2014 — his choppy, muted Stratocaster rhythm playing over their stripped-down grooves became a defining sound. His solo albums (The Optimist, 2018; Motivational Music for the Syncopated Soul, 2020) expanded the approach. His Stratocaster through a Fender Princeton — pristine clean with heavy right-hand muting — is his signature tone.
