Frank Gambale — Tone Evolution
Frank Gambale developed sweep picking into a complete system — his Economy Picking method (published 1988) taught sweep technique to a generation of guitarists. As Chick Corea's Elektric Band guitarist, he applied this velocity to fusion jazz.
1986–1998: Chick Corea Elektric Band
The Chick Corea Elektric Band (1986 debut) featured Gambale's sweep picking in a jazz-fusion context — extremely fast arpeggios over complex harmonic changes. Light Years (1987) and Eye of the Beholder (1988) are the peak recordings. His Ibanez guitar through a Roland Jazz Chorus gave his arpeggios their clean, articulate quality.

Gambale's solo albums and teaching work continued the fusion identity. He has also recorded with Cab (featuring Dave Weckl and John Patitucci). His Economy Picking instructional materials remain widely used in guitar education.
