John 5

John 5 — Tone Evolution

John 5 (John Lowery) is Rob Zombie's guitarist and a technically extraordinary player who combines metal and country/chicken-picking in a way that few rock guitarists have attempted. His chicken-picking technique — using a flat pick and fingers simultaneously — is Nashville-standard fast, applied to heavy metal context.

1998–2004: Marilyn Manson

John 5 joined Marilyn Manson for Holy Wood (2000) and The Golden Age of Grotesque (2003) — shocking theatrical rock where his guitar technique was largely subservient to Manson's shock-rock aesthetic. The guitar tones were industrial-influenced: detuned, heavily processed.

Rob Zombie context allowed more guitar freedom — solo recordings confirmed the country/metal hybrid as his genuine identity.

John 5 joined Rob Zombie in 2005 and has been his guitarist since. His personal endorsement relationship with Fender (Telecaster signature models, multiple versions) and his side project recordings (Careful with That Axe, 2009; Season of the Witch, 2012) show the full range: country picking, metal riffing, neo-classical shredding, all applied to a Telecaster.
