Joe Pass Tone — Plugins & Amp Sims
Joe Pass's tone is the most transparent in jazz guitar: a Gibson ES-175 through a completely clean amplifier — often a Fender or small Roland combo — with just enough volume to fill a club. The neck pickup is engaged, the tone control rolled slightly back, and the amp set flat with no reverb. Every note is shaped by pick attack and left-hand dynamics. The warmth comes from the 175's laminated spruce top and the single-coil-inspired P-90 or full-depth humbuckers. Pass used downstrokes on low strings and alternating picking on runs, always with authority and swing.
