Jeff Beck

Jeff Beck was the guitarist's guitarist — technically unmatched, stylistically unclassifiable, and consistently ahead of his contemporaries. From the Yardbirds through the Jeff Beck Group, Beck-Ola, Blow by Blow and Wired, he reinvented himself repeatedly while maintaining an instantly recognisable voice. He rarely used a pick, instead using his fingers and the whammy bar as expressive tools.

Fender Stratocaster played fingerstyle into a Marshall — no pick, using thumb and fingers for unique attack. Whammy bar as a melodic device for subtle pitch vibrato and dramatic dives. An almost violinistic approach to sustain and vibrato.
