Tone Overview
What Makes This Sound Unique
Walk's main riff is one of the most recognisable in metal history — a low, slow, groove-based riff that prioritises heaviness over speed. The tone is the same fundamental Randall rig as Mouth for War, but the slower tempo and open-palm-muted approach reveals more of the Randall's natural compression. The harmonic squeals that punctuate the riff require precise pick-angle control against the harmonic node points on the string.

Amp Settings
Virtually identical to the Mouth for War setting — the Randall RG100 was Dimebag's primary tone throughout the Vulgar Display era with minimal adjustment between tracks.
Technique
How to Play It
Pinch harmonics (artificial harmonics) are the signature technique of this track — the pick is held very close to its tip, and the picking hand thumb lightly touches the string immediately after the pick strikes, forcing an overtone harmonic.
Budget Alternative
Achievable With
High-gain amp with a high-output humbucker bridge pickup. Pinch harmonics require a specific hand position — the thumb grazes the string 1-2mm after the pick stroke on the right harmonic node.
