Little Wing

Jimi Hendrix · Axis: Bold as Love · 1967

What Makes This Sound Unique

Gentle, warm and almost ambient — this is Hendrix at his most delicate. The Uni-Vibe adds a slow, liquid pulse that turns the Stratocaster into something close to an organ or choir, with the fuzz barely engaged.

  1. 1Fender Stratocaster (neck pickup, volume ~7)
  2. 2Univox Uni-Vibe (slow speed, deep setting)
  3. 3Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face (barely touching)
  4. 4Marshall Super Lead 100W (moderate volume)

Amp at moderate volume — Little Wing does not use power amp saturation heavily. The Uni-Vibe does most of the tonal shaping. Keep the Fuzz Face at minimum touch or bypass it entirely for the verse picking pattern.

How to Play It

Thumb-over-neck chord embellishments with constant pick-hand muting — the melody lives in the treble strings while the bass notes walk independently.

Achievable With

Boss RT-20 (Uni-Vibe sim) + Dunlop Hendrix Fuzz Face Mini into any Blues Junior or Katana at moderate volume.
