Tone Overview
What Makes This Sound Unique
Mansoor's most refined djent tone — the 7-string Juggernaut into an Axe-Fx II creates a crushing, hyper-articulate low-end attack with no muddiness. The palm-muted polyrhythmic patterns are individually audible even at extreme gain.
Signal Chain
- 1Periphery Juggernaut 7-string (bridge Bare Knuckle Ragnarok)
- 2Fractal Audio Axe-Fx II (Recto or custom amp sim)
- 3High-pass filter at ~80Hz, low-pass at ~8kHz in Axe-Fx
Amp Settings
The key to Mansoor's tone is the aggressive filtering in the Axe-Fx signal chain — a high-pass filter cuts sub-frequencies that would make the 7-string muddy, while the low-pass prevents harsh digital top-end. Bass is intentionally scooped in the amp sim because the actual low-end comes from the kick drum, not the guitar.
Technique
How to Play It
Polyrhythmic palm-muting with extreme right-hand precision — the djent technique requires the pick to barely graze the string surface while the palm stays anchored near the bridge saddles. The rhythmic accuracy must be metronomic as the patterns are mathematically complex.
Budget Alternative
Achievable With
7-string guitar → Neural DSP Parallax (purpose-built for djent) → high-pass at 80Hz in your DAW. Neural DSP Periphery Quad is literally Mansoor's own plugin.
