Guitars
Murray's Stratocasters are fundamentally modified: the original Fender pickups are replaced with DiMarzio Super Distortion humbuckers, routed directly into the standard Strat body cavities. This retains the Strat's lightweight feel and trem system while increasing output. He uses the neck pickup almost exclusively for leads — its warmer character is the foundation of his solo tone.

Amplifiers
The JCM800 is Murray's primary amp for the entire classic Maiden period. He uses the preamp gain channel without additional pedals — the amp's own distortion provides everything he needs for his pentatonic lead lines. Multiple heads and 4x12 cabs for stage volume.
Used through the earliest Iron Maiden recordings and live shows before the JCM800 became available — the Plexi's warmer gain character is audible on the first two Maiden albums.
Pedals & Effects
Chorus used selectively for specific clean or semi-clean passages where texture is needed — not a constant presence. Murray's lead work is entirely dry.
